Seasonal Collections
Some journeys only work in a particular fortnight of the year. These are those.
Late March – Mid April
The sakura front moves north through Japan at about 25 kilometres a day. We track the forecast weekly and place you in front of it rather than behind it.
September – March
Aurora is a probability game, and the only honest strategy is more dark-sky nights plus guides who chase cloud gaps. Iceland and Arctic Norway, done properly.
Late November – 26 December
Advent in central Europe, timed for the hour after the lights come on and before the crowds peak. Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and the Bavarian Alps.
September – November
The best-value window almost everywhere: warm sea in Italy, harvest in Piedmont, koyo in Kyoto, chinar colour in Kashmir, clear air in Ladakh.
April – July
School holidays handled: alpine railways and lake swimming in Switzerland, high passes in Ladakh, midnight sun in Norway, and East Africa's dry-season game.
June – September
India at its greenest and most photogenic, at half the price — Kerala's ayurveda season, monsoon Goa, the green Aravallis, and Meghalaya's living root bridges.
May – October
The dry months, when water is scarce, the bush is thin and predators are at their most visible. The Mara migration and the Sabi Sand's leopards.
