Overview

Overview

Italy is not one holiday, it is a dozen. The trick is choosing well and refusing to rush. Our Italy journeys usually take a coast, a city and a countryside — Amalfi for the water, Florence or Rome for the art, Tuscany or Piedmont for the table — connected by private driver rather than dragged through stations.

We work with guides who are art historians and sommeliers first and guides second, and with properties whose owners still greet guests personally.

When to go

Best time to visit

May, June, September and early October are the sweet spots: warm sea, open restaurants, manageable crowds. Avoid August, when Italians themselves leave the cities and the coast is at its most crowded.

Spring

Apr – Jun

Wisteria, long light, warm enough to swim by June.

Peak

Summer

Jul – Aug

Beautiful but busy and expensive; we route to quieter coasts.

Shoulder

Harvest

Sep – Oct

Our favourite window — vendemmia, truffles, warm sea.

Peak

Winter

Nov – Mar

Cities without queues, Dolomites for skiing.

Visa, currency, weather and flights

Visa

Italy is part of the Schengen area. Indian passport holders apply for a Schengen short-stay visa with biometrics at a VFS centre. Appointments in peak season can be scarce, so we open the file 90 days before departure and provide the full confirmed-itinerary, insurance and financial documentation set.

Currency

Euro (EUR). Cards are accepted almost everywhere; keep €100–150 in cash for small coastal towns, church donations and beach clubs.

Weather

Mediterranean on the coast, continental in the north. The lakes and Dolomites stay noticeably cooler than Rome and the south.

Flights

No non-stops from India to Italy currently; the cleanest routings are via the Gulf (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi) into Rome, Milan or Naples, 10–13h total. Open-jaw itineraries — into Naples, out of Milan — save a full day of backtracking.

What our travellers say

The gozzo day off Positano is still the best day of travel we have ever had. And the Schengen file was handled so thoroughly that our interview took four minutes.
